Preparing Supply Chain Teams for a Digital and AI-Enabled Future

Unilever’s supply chain customer operations team was experiencing rapid change. New digital tools, AI-enabled systems, and advanced planning technologies were transforming how teams worked. Yet traditional learning approaches—primarily classroom sessions and disconnected training resources—struggled to keep pace with the scale and speed of these changes.

Leaders needed a new way to prepare employees for the future of supply chain operations. Beyond introducing new tools, the goal was to help teams build the confidence and skills required to use them effectively. That meant developing capabilities across three critical areas: digital technologies, business understanding, and supply chain domain expertise.

Gamified Learning to Build Digital, Business, and Domain Skills

Unilever partnered with Centrical to deliver a gamified learning experience designed to drive engagement and sustained skill development. Through Centrical’s platform, the DigiOps program unified learning activities into a single interactive environment. Participants progressed through structured campaigns that included missions, quizzes, expert sessions, and hands-on assignments, allowing employees to practice new skills in real-world scenarios.

Gamification elements—including leaderboards, badges, and recognition—boosted participation and fostered friendly competition among learners. The program also provided clear progress tracking, enabling participants to see their progress through the curriculum.
